If you have been following along with my Miss USA series, you know that the preliminary competition was held yesterday, live from the Planet Hollywood Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. I gave you a rundown on the girls and my Top 16 for each category in photo (glamshot, swimsuit, evening gown, and headshot) and then ultimately my Top 16 prediction before prelim competition. Well folks, I have to say, some things have changed since seeing the girls compete...
The show was great as usual. The ladies came out in the same ole wrapped dress made by Sherri Hill. The host Chuck Buchanan and the reigning Miss USA, Nana Meriwether. And, as usual, they were playing the rhyming game when each contestant would come out - you either love it or you hate it. So I am going to give you a rundown on my faves, and maybe not so faves, those who pleasantly surprised me, and those who completely underwhelmed me. Side comments, I wasn't impressed with Nana's first red gown, or her speaking ability during some of the contestants info.. maybe it was nerves, with that being said, I still think she is one of the most appreciative winners of the Miss USA title.

Beginning with Evening Gown competition..
My Pre-Prelim Top 16.
Was kind of bummed that she changed her gown from the one in her official photo, but honestly, this girl could wear a brown paper bag and still be amazingly beautiful. She came to win, she rocked the gown, and just glowed on stage.
I was so excited to see Kentucky rockin' the pink gown. It looked a hundred times better on stage and in motion than it did in the photo. She was a spitting image of Barbie and really makes it work. This girl is my favorite, I love her face and I really am rooting for her to win.
Love the gown, love the face, but if I'm going to be honest, this girl has dropped from my Top 5 and maybe even the Top 10. Her performance was not great - she seemed almost bored. I was hoping she'd have more personality and that she would finally break the curse (DE has NEVER been called into a placement in Miss USA history), but I fear she may not.
So happy she stayed with this gown. Pictures just don't do justice on how amazing it is in motion. LA was on fire last night. I think her makeup needs a little work, but she was loving being on the stage and you could tell, I love seeing that. LA is in it to win it!
Is there really a lot I need to say about this girl? One word: FIERCE. The dress was gorgeous on stage and her walk was fabulous. Her face is simply stunning, I couldn't take my eyes off of her. I think she is secured in the Top 5.
Ohhhh VA. Damn that girl can walk, and she has got the body no doubt. The gown was so beautiful but honey, WHAT is up with that hair!! I really think you're going to get the call, please don't make that mistake again!
Happy she stuck with this gown. Worked it beautifully. There's not much more I can say about this girl. I think she'll make the first call or maybe even the second, but I don't think she's Top 5.
Alright, the underwhelming begins. Florida just didn't bring it. The color is great, but the hair, the presentation, I was just expecting a little more I guess. She has been majorly hyped up leading to this point. Her photos are dynamite, but this? Not so much. Just not diggin' her.
I think IL is super beautiful. Her walk and gown were ok, not my complete fave, but I think she holds her own in this line up. You can't fake that kind of beauty.
Moving on up. The photos of this gown just don't do justice. It's really beautiful in motion, and WV knows how to work it. Love the hair, love the makeup, this girl is fabulous. I'm loving her! I really hope she gets a high placement, she seems like a really fun girl.
I'm not sure about this here. Red is a good color for her no doubt, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of this gown. It's hard when I saw her in the beautiful black and white lace in her official photo. Her presentation was lacking, I really expected more personality from her on stage.
Happy she stuck with this gown, it definitely sets her apart. Not crazy about the hair, not sure she has a strong enough face to slick it back that way (Olivia and Leila can totally pull it off - past two Miss Universe). Her walk was great though and she shined onstage. I'm still loving her.
The back of this gown is much prettier than the front, but it looked gorgeous in motion. Michigan is such a simple beauty, but I was wanting more confidence from her. She seemed a little unsure of herself on stage.
This girl has skyrocketed to a higher placement on my list. Her presentations were HOT. This gown may not be the best one, but the way she rocked it was fabulous. She has the spunk and the beauty, she really turned it on last night.
I love her energy and considering how long it took for her to win her state title (I think six times?!) she's really taking the Vegas experience all in - and I love that. I fear she's too Alyssa Campanella-like (Miss USA 2011) which could hurt her, but her modeling is fierce and she really came prepared. Plus the blue is fabulous on her!
NV had all the right training. Given the fact that her director is a former Miss USA (Shanna Moakler), she really knows what she's going on stage. I love a blonde in black - such a beautiful contrast. I'm only concerned that she isn't facially strong enough, this is a beauty pageant after-all.
Aside from my pre-prelim Top 16, my bubbles...
Gosh I am such a fan of AR this year. I may be a tad bias given it's my home state, but I was so happy she walked out in this gown and not the purple one from her official photo. This gold looked absolutely beautiful on her. She walked great and carried the gown well, but I'm afraid of her deer in the headlights look. It gives her an insecure vibe onstage. Show your confidence AR!
I was a little disappointed with TN. Not a fan of this gown, she did look like she was having fun though, which counts for something. I just expected to be wowed by her after seeing her photos floating around everywhere.
Other performances and gowns I loved...
I really like this gown. She slipped, but didn't fall, and I wasn't crazy about her performance. But, I do like the gown.
District of Columbia
DC was a pleasant surprise for me. Her presentations were great, you could tell she is loving being here, and that's really fun to watch on stage.
Something about GA captivates me, I'm not sure what it is. I loved this gown, although her presentation seemed a little timid.
MD has been wishy washy for me, but when she came out in this gown (it's SO much better in motion than in pictures) she rocked it. Confidence is beauty and this girl has it!
Y'all should already know I love this gown since I included her in my Top 16 based on gown photos, and she carried it really well. She can model and really works that strut. I wish her face was prettier (not saying she isn't beautiful), I fear that will be what hold her back.
It's no surprise I love WA green gown. She worked it beautifully on stage and really showed confidence. Loving her!
Unfortunately some ladies come out in questionable gowns. It's Miss USA, you need to pull out all the big guns, meaning dynamite gowns. I don't understand why these gowns were chosen...
I have never been a fan of HI gown choices, I didn't like her state one either. Plus, I'm pretty sure that's a stain I see. With that said, this is a really beautiful color, but it is ill fitting and doesn't show off her shape. Living in this state now, I really want to root for HI in pageants, but it's just not there for me. This is Miss USA, no time for slip ups.
Not digging, not digging at all. I think it might be leather? I don't know, it just seems so dark to me. It fit weird, she tried to rock it, but I just don't think it worked. Just my opinion.
What. the. hell. I can't even.. No. Just no. I don't know who told her to add the gold stripes to the bottom, this gown was great the way it was. She's super cute and very smart, I just can't understand what happened here.
I really want to like OK, but it's just not my cup of tea. This gown is super beautiful, but it's not for Miss USA. She could barely walk in it, it was obviously uncomfortable, I get you're going for regal but dang, choose something you can strut in this is Miss USA!!!
I think everyone held high standards for RI considering the reigning Miss Universe hails from this teeny tiny state. This gown was a big no. It kind of looks cheap, and very, very teen-like. She's young and looks it, so she needs something that makes her look a tad older. Just wasn't for me.
And there is my rundown for the Evening Gown competition. Who are your faves? Just like the show, I'm moving on straight to Swimsuit.
My Pre-Prelim Top 16
Holy sexpot. Like I've said time and time again, this girl is amazingly beautiful. She worked that stage in swimsuit and dang is her body bangin'. MEOW
Ohhh KY.. why did you lose so much weight since your state pageant? Your face is the bomb.com, but that body, teeny teeny tiny. Love the way you walked and your strut, but please eat about 10 footlong meatball subs before Sunday. Seriously - I love you and am rooting for you, I want you to succeed!!!
Once again, underwhelmed with DE performance. I need a little more umph (sp?). She has a rockin' body and a beautiful face, I just wish she had more fun on stage.
I love LA's personality on stage. You can really tell she's having a good time and that's so enjoyable to watch. Like I said, LA is in it to win it!
UT is so hot I can't even deal. That face is dynamite and she has the right amount of sex appeal in her strut. Loving this girl!
Hands down best body of the pageant. You can tell she leads a very healthy lifestyle and works hard to keep her body looking this way. She knows it too with the way she rocked it. I'd say swimsuit winner!
WI does not disappoint. She is so beautiful and has an incredible figure. Way to represent your state with pride girl!
Once again, underwhelmed by FL. I don't understand where her spunk has gone. In candids and even professional shots she puts on more personality than she did on stage all night.
I am still loving IL. She is so beautiful, has a rockin' body, and really shows confidence on stage. She prepared herself very well for this competition.
No doubt in my mind this girl will be Top 5. She knows what she's doing (also repped WV at Miss Teen USA) and is absolutely gorgeous. I love that she went with straight hair - it set her apart in such a good way.
Still no spark from TX. She has a good body and you can tell she's very athletic, but I want sass - this is swimsuit competition!!!
MN pleaseeeee put your hair down. You have a lot of personality and are very beautiful but honestly, the hair is distracting. I need it down and youthful and fun. Great walk!
I love MI's body. You can tell she really works on the fitness aspect of this pageant. I need her to show more fire on stage. She kind of just strolls along instead of modeling. Come on MI liven it up a little!
I absolutely love NC. She is such a beautiful girl and her body is HOT. I expected more bounce in her step like she had in evening gown, but there is no denying this girl's fitness. Ow ow!
Still loving this girl, I have no doubt she will get the call. Great body and great walk. She is no newbie to showing her stuff on stage.
NV has a great walk but I was expecting more sass in swimsuit from her. I honestly think she'll get the call because she is very prepared but I don't think she is facially beautiful enough.
Aside from my pre-prelim Top 16, my bubbles...
Smokin' body, beautiful face, that color is perfect for her. Ahhh I love Arkansas. If she get's the call (which I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she does) I really hope she livens it up for finals. Sassy please!!
For one, I'm not digging the hair, too flat on top of her head, maybe that is what distracted me. Other than that she has a great body and modeled well.
Other performances and fitness I loved...
Loved NJ presentation. She has that Latina fire, which could eventually hurt her in this competition (mainly because of the new Miss Latina USA competition). I still think she is beautiful.
I am just loving MT! She really knows how to strut and with a body like that, you need to! I love her entire presentation, she really came to win.
Ohh GA. You are awesome. Loved your walk, love your fitness, love your face. Such a beautiful girl. This is a really hard year!
MD has pleasantly surprised me in prelims. After all of her photos the week prior I was afraid she was too masculine, but her presentation in both gown and swimsuit have been great. She's definitely fighting for a spot.
WA just keeps getting better and better. I love her confidence, her personality, and her strut. A really great pleasant surprise.
Maybe not the most proportioned body, but SC is so beautiful and has really great fitness. She owned that swimsuit stage and I loved it!
Another pleasant surprise for me because I have not been feeling WY this entire time. Her swimsuit presentation changed that for me. I loved it!
I'm not even going to go into the ones I did not like and the fitness I was very disappointed in. It's Miss USA and if you aren't ready for swimsuit than you shouldn't have even shown up - I mean swimsuit is a huge part of the pageant! It stems from the very beginning!
