Becky has thrown an awesome idea out for this link up. We are going to dedicate weeks to each book/movie. What does that mean? For example, this week we are talking all things The Sorcerer's Stone (book/movie one). The topics can range. That's why we say all things, chapters, characters, events, Pottermore, and so much more!
The Sorcerer's Stone. The beginning of the entire enchilada.
When I was eight years old, living in Tennessee, I decided to pick up this book (which was my sister's) and start reading it. I was done in a few days. I absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to read more!
I waited in line at the movies the first night it came out with my sister, who was also a huge fan. I couldn't wait to see it, I spent so many nights staying up until 3am reading that book. I was hooked on the series. The thing I love about reading, is you can get completely captured into the book. When I sit down with a good book that I enjoy, I leave the area I am and become captivated with the story. It's like I'm a character inside the book, whether it be the narrator, or an innocent bystander watching the story happen. Either way, it takes me away from reality and sends me into a fantasy world, which being a Pisces, I'm all about.
With Harry Potter, I did just that. Every time I opened the book it was like I was standing right there by Harry the whole time. I could explore Hogwarts and learn spells and potions and charms. It was like I was included in all the activities and events that happened. If only that were real...
My favorite quote comes from this book. "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live" says Albus Dumbledore to Harry when he first discovers the Mirror of Erised. I plan to get it tattooed on me one day :)
This book opened up an entire new world for my generation. It is basically my entire childhood. I can't look back on when I was young and not have Harry Potter included somehow, some way. I think J.K. Rowling did a tremendous job of introducing the characters and their personalities as well as their physical appearances In a lot of ways, they were just like us which helped readers to really relate. I think everyone had that smarty pants friend who knew everything as well as the not so popular friend who was always on your side. It's such an endearing story and I'm so glad I was able to fall in love with it. It has brought me several friendships and has helped keep my imagination alive, which in this day and age I think is very important.
It's only the beginning of an incredible journey...
If you had to plan a 7 day Potter-themed vacation to anywhere in the world (maybe multiple places!) where would you go? What would you do? And most importantly...who would you bring with you?
