Happy Thursday loves!
I'm finally back to my normal schedule and don't go back to work until Saturday! Woohoo.. so that means I'm beaching it all day :)
Last week Mike, me, and a couple of friends of ours decided to do the Stairway to Heaven (aka the Haiku Stairs) hike. We've done it before (last April) but decided to do it again since my friend Jessie missed out the first time. This hike is so much fun, but it is definitely sketchy - it's also "forbidden".
It was originally built for the U.S. Coast Guard but later became inaccessible due to lack of maintenance on the stairs. The state officially closed the hike to the public back in 1987. Even though it is closed, we still decided to make the 3,922 step trek up to 2,120 feet above sea level - and you'll see why :)
There is no official entrance to the trail head, and there is usually a guard that stands watch to keep civilians from going up, but if you get there early enough (say, around 3:30am) the guard has not made it to his post yet, and if you hurry, the stairway is yours.
We actually got to see the sunrise from the very, very top this time and it was amazing. It was still super cold and misty (I mean we're in the clouds!!) but I love this hike and it's totally worth the sketchy, straight up and down parts :)
So I'm leaving you today with all the pictures I took while on the hike last Tuesday morning.
**Disclaimer: All photos were taken by ME with my Nikon CoolPix L120. Please do not copy, crop, or use as your own.**
First platform. Around 4:30am
Heading into the clouds
The sun peaked through while at the very top of the stairs

Overlooking Kaneohe Bay
Looking into the abyss
I really love the mountains here.
Of course, had to get a picture with M :)
The sun was projecting a circled rainbow with out shadow in the center. If you can see it, it was really neat!
There's the highway below us.
There were a ton of people on the hike. It was Spring Break
**These next two photos were taken from my friend Jessie who used her iPhone4, which I posted on my Instagram**
So what do you think? After we got down we decided to go to breakfast since it was only around 8:30am. After breakfast Mike and I crashed and slept a good part of the day. It really takes a lot out of you. My calves were feeling it for the next two days!
Want to see other hikes around the island? Go here :)
Time to beach it!
